Suntory Pharmaceutical Research Laboratories LLC (SPRL) was founded on January 1, 2000. The mission of SPRL is to discover drugs to treat cardiovascular and immune diseases using structure-based drug design in a timely and cost-effective manner.

SPRL's drug discovery approach is multidisciplinary with a strong emphasis on the integration of the drug discovery expertise of our senior scientists. Our scientists have an outstanding record of accomplishment in drug discovery with expertise in different chemistries, including medicinal chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, computational and structural chemistry, and biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology. In addition to a focus on traditional drug targets such as proteases, receptors, and kinases, SPRL is building a technology platform focused on protein-protein interactions.

SPRL is a majority-owned, arms length corporation that is fully funded by Daiichi Suntory Pharma Co., Ltd, Tokyo, Japan. Recognizing the importance of a stable funding environment to the creation of novel therapeutic products, Daiichi Suntory Pharma Co., Ltd. has made a multi-year R&D funding commitment. With this commitment, SPRL scientists and its Scientific Advisory Board can aggressively exploit original ideas and multiple technologies. Thus, SPRL is in a unique position to select and pursue drug discovery projects in a stable funding environment.

SPRL has a very attractive ownership and cash award program. All employees have ownership in the company through membership in the Limited Liability Corporation. In addition, through their ownership share, all employees participate in profit sharing. The funds of the profit sharing program are derived from drug discovery and development milestones and royalty payments. Such payments are distributed annually.
